All youth participating in the parade are encouraged to learn about a Colorado Springs Veterans group. The Pikes Peak Library District posts the names of books about courageous veterans and other military events for Scout leaders, teachers, and other adults to use as background information.
Registration can be found under the Participate page.
Hundreds of area high school students participate in the parade as part of their school's Junior Reserve Officer Training (JROTC) program.
Each year, the Colorado Springs Veterans Day Parade is fortunate to have some of the top high school marching bands in the city participate in the parade. A band competition is held in conjunction with the parade, and trophies are awarded for first, second, and third place. The Parade Board's goal is to have 10 high school bands participate annually in the parade. For more information contact Bev Harms at bevparalegal@aol.com. To register a band, please complete a registration form.
The Parade Board welcomes the addition of floats in the parade. It is our hope that the floats will incorporate the theme for the year in their design. The theme will be announced in late May and will be posted on the website. We try to limit the number of floats to 10 and ask that a registration form be completed to ensure we have the correct contact information when we announce the line up.
The Colorado Springs Veterans Day Parade appreciates the enthusiasm and interest in our event shown by local Scouting groups. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm has truly overwhelmed the parade. We are limited by the City of Colorado Springs to only 1 ½ hours for the parade. Having so much Scout participation in the past has caused us to come dangerously close to our time limit. Therefore, Scout groups are not allowed to register to participate in the parade. We understand this is a disappointment for many Scouts. They are still able to participate if they partner with a military or veteran group to march in the parade. REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE MILITARY OR VETERAN GROUP and must include the Scout leader’s name and contact information.
For more information on Scouting, please contact The Parade Office at parade4va@gmail.com.
Scouting groups are asked to keep their number of scouts per pack as close to 10 as possible. This regulation has been established for the safety of the children, as well as the rest of the parade participants. We also recommend that scouts traveling on foot are over the age of 9 years old. Scout banners are acceptable, however, scout floats are not. We encourage the scouts to be incorporated with the display of the military or veterans group they are traveling with.
